Why the Wilson 1000 performs better:
The higher win/gain/stronger performance of the Wilson 1000 is a result of a number of new design developments that make the most powerful CB base loaded antenna available in this price range.
Much of the power that goes into a typical base station-loaded CB antenna is lost with heat in the coil. And as dielectric heat loss in the coil within the plastic.
Many CB antennas lose more than 50% of the power due to the heat they produce. The power is lost as heat loss and not radiated as radio waves. Another weak link in other CB antennas is that they use this capacitor to match the coaxial cable to the antenna. That's an inexpensive and easy way to keep the SWR looking good. But gives a lot of power loss. The capacitors pop out when you put high power on the antenna. Therefore they are not in a Wilson 1000.
The first priority was to reduce electrical loss within the plastic in the coil. This was accomplished by floating the coil in air. Supported only at four small points 90 degrees from each other in fact covering 95% of the plastic from the inner surface of the coil. This reduced the dielectric power loss to almost nothing.
The second priority was to get rid of the resistive heat losses in the coil. Since most of the RF energy travels at 27 MHz on the surface of the wire, it was decided to increase the surface area by increasing the diameter of the wire by 10 GA copper. Because silver is a better conductor than copper, but very expensive, the wire is heavily silver-plated. This reduced the resistance to a minimum.
Finally, to get rid of the losses in the matching between the coax and the charge coil, the lossy capacitor was eliminated and a difficult but more efficient way of coupling the antenna was used. A Scalar Network Analyzer was used to determine the very precise point to directly match the coil with the coax and obtain the best match with maximum power transfer, which indicates the 3000 watts of power.
You have now read why the Wilson 1000 performs better. But the Wilson 1000 is also the most robust antenna you can buy. It is made with Mobay's Thermoplastic which costs much more, but it is the best plastic available for antennas.
Test results:
In tests conducted by Lockheed Corporation, one of the world's largest Aerospace companies, at their Rye Canyon Laboratory and Antenna Test Range, it appears the Wilson 1000 has 58% more power than the K-40 Electronics Company, K-40 CB antenna. This means that the Wilson 1000 gives you 58% more gain on both transmit and receive, on channel 40. Now you can instantly increase the working range by installing a Wilson 1000.
Antenna Power GAIN: The amount of improvement in power gain over another antenna. The higher GAIN ensures that an antenna transmits and receives better. But the actual distance depends on the profit, ground floor, and other environmental factors. Individual test results may vary due to vehicle support surface and matching configuration.
